Total Hexagon Addiction!

Well, I had a night on the sofa in front of the TV last night making hexagons for Jake's 'Disney' quilt! I have to say I am surprised at how many I did in such a short space of time - once you get going on them its hard to stop. I decided to start with Mr Incredible as he is Jake's favourite, although now I'm concerned I'm not going to be able to find enough fabric with enough characters to make it look good. I have two Buzz Lightyear's and Woody the cowboy, but not sure they will transfer to patches ok due to the hem round each patch? Hmmm shall have to stay on the look out for suitable fabric! Can already see the potential for this to be one of those projects which doesn't get finished! Here's my work in progress:

Mini Makeover

This weekend we did a mini makeover on our bathroom. We live in an old terrace house and the bathroom is downstairs at the back of the house (an absolute nightmare at the moment as I'm 7 months pregnant and need the loo loads in the night!!). It's always been THE most depressing, cold room in the house and I decided I couldn't take it any longer so Paul decorated it and I got a few nice bits and pieces from Ikea and the rest was just what we had elsewhere and we did a £30 makeover!! Here are the after pics (unfortunately don't have the befores but trust me it wasn't nice! Still would like to get some blue glass beads to make curtain tie backs and a blue and yellow striped showever curtain.

My First Swap

I recently stumbled upon a brilliant website called Swap-Bot. When I was at school I was really into pen pals etc but that kind of died out as I went to college etc. Well this site is brilliant it hosts 'swaps' where you can sign up and send thing of to different people a lot of which are done in the form of challenges. The first I signed up to was a 'Musical Scavenger Hunt' where you were assigned a number of different categories to match a musical track to (only one per artist). It was great fun to do and here is my play list:

Track One – A song with a form of transportation in the Title

Lee Ryan – Turn the car around

Track Two – A song with a form of punctuation in the Title

David Bowie – Life on Mars?

Track Three – A song which mentions a country other than your own

Red Hot Chilli Peppers – Californication (Mentions China & Sweden!)

Track Four – A song that mentions time in some way

Simon Webbe – After all this Time

Track Five – A Song about wealth or privilege

Madonna – Material Girl

Track Six – A song that contains bad grammar

Friday Hill – Baby Goodbye

Track Seven – Any Artists first Hit

Backstreet Boys – We’ve got it Goin on

Track Eight – A song you like in a genre you don’t

Eminem – Stan (feat Dido)

Track Nine – A song with one of the four elements in its title

Curiosity Killed the Cat – Down to Earth

Track Ten – A song that tells a story

Dire Straits – Romeo & Juliet

Track Eleven – A Song from my favourite movie

Moby – Porcelain

Track Twelve – A dark Song

Massive Attack – Unfinished Sympathy

Track Thirteen – A song about a cause that is special to you

Black Eyed Peas – Where is the Love

Track Fourteen - A song written for one genre that is translated to another

Sweetbox – Everything’s gonna be alright

Track Fifteen – An Irish Drinking Song

The Corrs – Only when I sleep

Track Sixteen – A song that mentions some cosmic entity

REM – Man on the moon

Track Seventeen – A song over five minutes

Robbie Williams – No Regrets

Track Eighteen– A Song that mentions distance in some way

I really enjoyed this swap and the Cd's have been posted to Sass in Devon and Christy in USA - hope you both enjoy them!

Starting a new craft

I've been thinking about starting a patchwork quilt for ages, I always remember my Aunt having a bag at the side of the sofa full of scraps of material and cardboard hexagons, I never saw the finished quilt but she seemed to love dipping into it every now and again and making a few patches. I never really knew how to do it and after a bit of research on flickr I came across some instructions for 'English Paper Piecing' and decided to give it a go. So far I have managed to cut out 150 8cm Hexagons using junk mail (thought it would be a good opportunity to recycle some of the rubbish which comes through our door each day rather than using my nice new cardstock!) ! I have sorted myself out a little box to keep every thing in now I just need to go through my fabric stash and decide what colours to go for. Ideally I would like to make Jake one for his 'big bed' in time for Christmas, I have a lot of old Disney Duvets & Pillow cases with his favourite characters on and some other blue scraps and am wondering how this would turn out? Would a miss mash of bits of Disney look good or a total mess? Hmmm I shall have to give it some thought. I am also thinking I shall need to invest in a thimble before I start! I shall leave you with a picture of my hexagons!

Welcome to my Blog!

I fully admit I am useless at keeping a blog. I love blogging but just don'e keep it up, I have had two in the past which both died out after a week or two so i'm hoping this will be 3rd time lucky! If you read my blog and there is something you like please leave a comment as I need all of the encouragement I can get to keep it going! I shall start by adding a few posts with my current projects!
